Frozen Canoe Creek Lake

February 26, 2022

Canoe Creek State Park has always been a relaxing, mind clearing place for me. Sometimes I walk around the whole lake and not see a single person on the trails. There are so many different types of trails to take. From hills with switchbacks to tight trails on a hillside to mud. There is usually mud at some point if you are by the river.

Trails are pet friendly (just keep them on a leash) and sometimes you ever run into a horse. I've never had much luck fishing here but I have a lot to learn about fishing. At the time I took this picture, there were a lot of people ice fishing. They show up and load up their sleds with everything they need for the day. Then head out on the ice, drill a hole and have at it. Not sure I could sit there for very long if fish weren't biting.

There are old ruins of limestone kilns and a few other buildings hidden back in the trails a bit. Its always nice to find a picnic table in the sun and just enjoy the peace of the water. This is also a great place for kayaking. Pretty easy to paddle around the whole lake.

Eagles. I love Eagles. I saw one here a few years ago dive down and grab a fish out of the water by the damn. Such an amazing bird.

Pack a lunch and some water and enjoy this place!
