Welcome to Trailsoftroy

This was a good time.
It took 8 hours with ups and downs. A few flipped there kayaks (mostly due to excessive alcohol consumption 🤷🏽♂️). Kayaking with friends is always a good time.
Tough lesson learned here. Don’t tube with kayakers. 😂. I would have given up an hour into this float, so I’d like to say they did an amazing job at making it to the end.
Now don’t take me wrong. I think it’s a great idea to tube with kayakers if is a decent current so that everyone can keep up with each other.
They are already looking into kayaks. So it didn’t dampen there spirits.
This bridge just really caught my attention. It always amazes me how a lot of railroad bridges that were built so long ago are still around after handing all the weight of the trains. Just happened to be there at the right time as a train was coming by.
The views along this part of the river are amazing. I really need to invest in a good camera one of these days. But the iPhone 12 mini does pretty good.
At this point in the float, everyone was still in good spirits.
This was after a decent Rapidy area. A few caught a good many small mouth bass as we chilled for a little while.
This is where the lack of food set in. Lol. We didn’t plan on it being such a long trip, so many didn’t pack enough food or snack to keep the bellies happy. Even the beer was getting low. 😳. I believe this is the spot that had a few fire pit areas build with rocks from the area. Would be a cool spot to stop and camp for an evening. (one of these days I will get in a kayaking camp trip 👊🏼).
Something about a birch tree. The white bark that appears as they shed there layers. They are all over the Juanita River.
The wildlife is amazing also. We saw a lot of blue heron, a few snakes (they leave you alone if you leave them alone. Don’t be such a bitch), some black ferret looking thing (No clue), lots of crayfish, fish, many different birds. I’ve seen many eagles on this river.
Is that the blind camp? Omg it is. Hahaha. This is what everyone was waiting for for. The cheers and “Thank Fucking God” I believe was said by Smitty.
All in all I would say this was a great day and would be a perfect float if you plan on taking the entire day. This took us 8 hours with stopping 3 times.
Things we should have brought:
Enough food for everyone to have a good lunch.
Snacks
Sun screen
First aid kit
Kayaks 😂
Soda/sugar for the kids. A good friend of mine taught me to just let your kid have whatever they want from the store when it’s going to be a long energetic day. And it works!
Umbrella. They are nice to keep in the kayak for when the sun gets unbearable.
Water shoes
WATERPROOF Bluetooth speaker. We had a speaker but it was on the kayaked that didn’t want to stay upright And it wasn’t waterproof.
This was the sky at the end of the float. We started at about 11:00 am and ended around 7:00pm.
Then it’s time to pile as many people as you can into a vehicle to drive back up to where we all started To grab everyones vehicle, then drive back down to where the float ended so everyone can Load all the kayaks up. It amazing how much trash you accumulate in your kayak on that long of a float. Maybe I should add trash bags to my list. 🤔.
Anyway. I would definitely recommend this part of the Juniata. Just plan better than we did.
Hope this helps out in some way. Thanks for looking.
